My Body Is Gone, But Our Love Still Breathes

My Body Is Gone, But Our Love Is Still Breathing
(A Message from a Beloved Pet to the Family I Will Always Love)
I know the hardest part of losing me wasn’t only the moment you saw me for the last time.
Sometimes, the hardest part came afterward.
When you returned home and could no longer hear my footsteps.
When you saw my food bowl still sitting where it always had.
When you found a little bit of my fur on the sofa.
Or when your hand instinctively reached out to stroke my head, only to remember that I was no longer there.
My body may be gone.
But if there is one thing I could tell you now, it would be this:
Our love is still breathing.
I Know Home Feels Different Now
Maybe you never realized how much space I occupied in your everyday life.
I waited for you to come home.
I followed you from room to room.
I slept beside you.
I asked for food even when I had just eaten.
And sometimes, I simply sat there quietly, watching you.
Those things might have seemed ordinary.
But to me, they were our life together.
Now that everything feels quieter, I know you’re beginning to realize just how much of me was woven into that home.
But please don’t let the silence convince you that everything we had has ended.
Our Memories Didn’t Leave With Me
When my body took its final breath, our memories didn’t stop breathing with it.
All our adventures.
All our games.
All those nights when I slept beside you.
All the photographs filling your phone.
All the silly little names that only you called me.
They’re still here.
And as long as you remember them, a part of our story will always remain alive.
Please Don’t Remember Me Only by My Last Day
I know my final day can be difficult to forget.
Maybe my body had become very tired.
Maybe I didn’t want to eat anymore.
Maybe my breathing had changed.
And perhaps you still replay those moments in your mind, asking yourself:
“Did I do enough?”
Please don’t allow one difficult day to erase an entire lifetime together.
I was so much more than my final day.
Remember me running toward you when you came home.
Remember me stealing your spot on the bed.
Remember all the ridiculous things I did that made you laugh.
Remember my life, not only my goodbye.
I Always Knew I Was Loved
Maybe you still think some of the decisions you made weren’t perfect.
But I never needed perfection.
I only needed a home where I felt safe.
And you gave me that.
I knew I was loved when you gently stroked my head.
I knew I was loved when you took me to the veterinarian when I was sick.
I knew I was loved when you stayed beside me as my body grew weaker.
Even at the very end…
I still knew I was part of your family.
Even After I Was Gone, You Still Took Care of Me
After I left, there was one final decision you had to make:
How would you help me return to nature?
For pet parents in Jakarta and the Greater Jakarta area, pet aftercare choices are no longer limited to burial or traditional flame cremation.
One alternative that more families are beginning to discover is Pet Aquamation, sometimes referred to as water-based bio-cremation.
Aquamation uses water, an alkaline solution, controlled temperature, and circulation to accelerate the natural decomposition process. Unlike conventional cremation, it does not rely on direct flame.
For some families, this approach feels more aligned with their wish to provide a gentle and respectful final farewell to a beloved companion.
Pet Aquamation: Returning to Nature Through Water
Water has always been part of life.
And through aquamation, water can also become part of the final journey.
After the aquamation process is complete, bone minerals remain. These minerals are carefully dried and processed into a fine powder commonly referred to as ashes or remains. With individual aquamation services, these remains can then be returned to the family.
You may choose to:
- Keep them in a memorial urn
- Create a meaningful keepsake
- Place them in a special memorial space
- Remember me in another way that feels meaningful to your family
To me, where you keep my ashes isn’t the most important thing.
What matters is the love behind your decision.
Please Don’t Feel Guilty When You Start Smiling Again
I know it may feel strange at first.
How can you laugh when I’m no longer there?
How can life ever feel normal again?
But I don’t want grief to be the only thing I leave behind.
I once made you happy.
So if one day you can look at my photograph and smile instead of cry…
please allow that smile to come.
It doesn’t mean you’re forgetting me.
It means the pain is slowly making room for all the beautiful memories we created.
And If One Day You Love Another Pet…
Please don’t be afraid that you’re replacing me.
There is nothing to replace.
Our story already has its own place in your heart.
If another pet needs a home someday, and you decide to love them…
give them that love.
Teach them what it feels like to have a family.
Hold them the way you once held me.
Because perhaps one of the most beautiful things I can leave behind is this:
I taught you that loving an animal can become one of the deepest forms of family love.
My Body Is Gone, But I Am Still Part of Your Story
One day, perhaps my bed will finally be packed away.
My food bowl will no longer sit in the kitchen.
My toys may be carefully placed inside a box.
And the house may no longer feel as painfully quiet as it does today.
Then someone will ask about me.
You’ll open an old photograph.
You’ll say my name.
And perhaps you’ll smile as you say:
“They were part of our family.”
That’s when you’ll understand.
My body may be gone.
But our love was never buried, burned, or erased.
Our love is still breathing—in your memories, in your stories, and in the life we once shared together.
